Pace, pitch range, and volume are features that can interfere with communicating a message effectively and those were making the biggest impact on Eileen’s speech. By the end of our lessons she had learned how to control each of these and use them in a way that helped enhance her meaning rather than distract from it. She created different styles of speaking that gave her a “menu” of voices to choose from for any situation.
